Effect of Cultivar and Culture Technique on the Growth and Quality Components of Raphanus sativus L. var . ¢¥ Altari ¢¥

Abstract
Effect of variety, seed size, soil pressing, top dressing method, and holed vinyl mulching (©ª1§¯ 250 hole/§³) on the growth and several quality criteria of Raphanus sativus L. var `Altari¢¥ were studied and the results were as follows;
1. The external quality criteria such as weights of leaves and roots, width and length of roots have difference among 4 varieties, but dry weight, vitamin C and thiocyanate content have no difference.
2. The early growth of large size seed (thousand grain weight=TGW=11.0g) was better than small size seed (TGW=8.lg), but there was no difference on yield and several internal quality criteria.
3. The root growth was effected by soil pressing compaction, but the content of vitamin C, dry weight and thiocyanate content were not changed by the soil pressing.
4. The top dressing did not promoted the growth of roots than basal dressing. Only one treatment of top dressing (10§¯ distance from plant and 5§¯ depth) was better than basal dressing, but there was no significant statistical difference.
5. Holed vinyl mulching and tunnel promoted the growth of tops and roots of Altari radish as compared to those grown with non-holed vinyl mulching and tunnel.
